CURRICULUM VIVAE OF ALI HAJI WARSAME
Ali Haji Warsame, the Former Minister of Education/Higher Education of Puntland State of Somalia, is a highly motivated, focused executive, and certified professional with extensive knowledge and experience in accounting, auditing and public finance management. He is a full member of AICPA, CGMA & CAT.
As a politician, he ran for the Presidency of Puntland State of Somalia in January, 2014, and successfully came close to winning the mandate of the President of Puntland State in a tightly contested Presidential Election. As Presidential candidate, he earned the respect and trust of his opponents among the multiple Presidential candidates to choose him as their leader and spokesperson to handle extremely controversial election issues and disputes with then incumbent former Puntland President, Abdirahman Faroole. His leadership skills on conflict resolution helped Puntland State to avoid election violence and brought about peaceful and democratic leadership change in the State in January 8, 2014. He had earned the support and confidence of the people of Puntland State in his political abilities in the process.
He comes from a highly respected family in Somalia. His father, the late Haji Warsame Ahmed Gurey Jowjowle, was a jurist, judge, popular religious leader, thinker and community activist, and a politician who fought for the independence of Somalia in the 1940s-1950s. His mother, Lady Aisha Haji Mohamud Omar Siigacade from the Sool Region, is the nephew of the late Ali Barre Omar, the popular community leader whose legacy includes the community lifeline drinking well in Laas Caanood, the Ceel Ali Barre. As a child, Ali Haji Warsame grew up, and went to his primary school education in Mogadishu and Hargeisa. He hails from Mudugh, a uniquely multi-clan region of Somalia.
Politically, he is a strong believer that Somalia’s better days are still ahead, and that Somalia’s current predicament and crisis can be resolved through cooperation and trust-building among its leaders.
During the short period as Minister of Education/Higher Education, he initiated and implemented major reforms in Puntland education, managing the Education Sector to oversee implementation of government policies on education, bringing major reforms in the education system of Puntland, implementing and advancing centralized curriculum, and final exams for all public schools, securing more funds for the Ministry’s operational capabilities, connecting the Sector with international partners, donors of educational institutions, and the general public for accessible quality education to all in Puntland State. Under his capacity as the Minister of a major Government portfolio, he chaired major State, regional, and Donor international conferences on Education Sector in Puntland successfully.
On the private sector, he was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Golis Telecom Somalia, the largest telecommunication company in Puntland, from May 2012 to October 2013, leaving the Company in a better financial and operational shape, before he decided to run for public office. From June 1991 to March 2012, he held various senior management positions in different private companies and organizations- He was Senior Consultant/Partner at Falcon Associates Ltd in the UK, the Auditor/ Senior-in-charge at Abu Dhabi accountability Authority (UAE), Financial Controller at Abu Dhabi Educational Zone of the Ministry of Education of UAE, and the Director of Bosaso Port, Somalia.
Ali Haji Warsame is currently a Goodwill Ambassador of Puntland Education as overwhelmingly chosen by the employees, management and teachers of the Puntland Ministry of Education.
Not accrediting himself to have attained the level of Islamic Scholar, Ali Haji Warsame is well versed with Islamic studies, and he deeply understands his religious values of tolerance, peace, social justice, reconciliation, human dignity, and equality.
He obtained his B.Sc. in Accounting and Management from the Somali Institute of Development Administration and Management in November 1990, and has the following professional qualifications: Certified Public Accountant by the Delaware State Board of Accountancy; Certified Accounting Technician by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and Assessor from City & Guilds, UK. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Somali Association of Certified Accountants.

He contributes to charity in Somalia and in Africa. He provides basic training to youth and adult learners in Puntland. He is a trustee of UK-based charity (MRDA), which provides contributions to support fee waiver programs for students of low income families and orphans in Africa. More than 500 students benefited from the Program.
